We just love moonstone, it's such a pretty gemstone, most commonly seen with hints of blue and white. The clarity of moonstone ranges from transparent to translucent to opaque and the stone has a soft shimmer known as adularescence.

Adularescence describes a natural optical effect said to be similar to the shimmering appearance of the moon. When a gem displays light that appears to float below its surface, the effect is known as adularescence and it's this that reaction to light that helps to make moonstone such a magical looking gemstone.

Moonstone is believed by some to amplify the energy of the moon and the occurrence of two supermoons in the same month gave rise to the phrase "once in a blue moon".

Blue Supermoon August 2023

The super blue moon will be the biggest and brightest full moon of 2023. We usually experience 12 full moons a year but an additional, 13th moon occurs roughly once every 2 to 3 years.

Here in the UK the blue moon will rise on August 31st at 2.35 am and will be both a blue moon (the second full moon in a month) and a super moon (when the moon is closest to earth and appears much larger than usual).
