Collection: Long Golden Bead Necklaces | Dholki Beads

Unique pieces created from our treasure trove of precious beads.  The gold beads used in these necklaces are called Dholki beads and are so named as they resemble the shape of a traditional drum of the same name.    The beads are filled with wax to make them lightweight and then covered in silver or gold. Dholki beads are traditionally worn in Maharashtra and North Karnataka and are prized heirlooms.   In some of these designs I have interspersed the dholki gold beads with colourful jadau work beads; set with rubies, emeralds and gemstones and a few with enamel embellishment also.

These long gold bead necklaces work exactly as you'd expect from the name, worn long, wrapped twice, or layered with other pieces to create a truly opulent and individual look.

The plain Dholki bead necklaces have a warmth and weight that makes them easy to reach for; the Jadau versions, set with rubies, emeralds, turquoise and enamel, are pieces you plan an outfit around. Each necklace is a handcrafted one-off.

If you are looking for a long gold necklace with genuine heritage and provenance and not something mass produced then this is a collection worth exploring.
